Open Order from outside source

Currently we have a need to open orders from an outside application. Is there a 'pre-existing built-in' functionality (like a web service) I can leverage to handle this?
I've seen a couple of solutions both in the SDK doc and on the forum but it looks like I might need to write this using the API and wrapping that into my own web service that the outside application can use.
Any guidance on this is much appreciated

We do not currently have a 'web service' API as your post suggests. (Although we are working on one...).

Today, the only way to accomplish your goal would be to use the API (per the SDK) to open and manipulate the order data.
