Multiple Installs for Select Server
Multiple Installs for Select Server
Is it possible to install Select Server (2.2) multiple times on one server? With version 2.1 we could install the database multiple times with different prefixes on one SQL Server and then point clients to the install we wanted them to use...based on if they were hitting our staging or test databases.

Re: Multiple Installs for Select Server
Select v2.2 currently does not officially support this use case. The installer is only capable of handling a single product install per machine. With the addition of the new mid-tier server (Select Server), the server install is more complex than with previous releases. With that said, the client does support the concept of multiple servers. The Select.exe.config file has an AvailableServerUrls property that contains a semi-colon delimited list of the servers. If the user launches the application while holding the CTRL key down, they will be presented with a dialog to pick the server to connect to.

Re: Multiple Installs for Select Server
Would it be possible to simply copy the virtual directory for a Select Server install, create a new one with a different and then register all the services that need to be registered? Is this possible - if so, what commands would need to be run?

Also, will you guys be adding back the feature to the installer that at least allows you to change the prefix of the database like it had in 2.1? It would be great if we had the option to choose our own database name when installing so we could use the same database server for multiple installs.

Copying the server folder is not supported (although it would probably work).
The named db instance feature will be added back, but I cannot tell you when that will be, as it has been officially scheduled yet.
