Softpro Boylan: concurrent users count

Post by rthotli »

Is there any way to determine what the max and/or average concurrent user count is on each of the Boylon installations, Counts for the largest/busiest would work.

We want to collect this information for our Boylan installations as it will help in Cameron installations planned for end March.

I do not know of a way to use Boylan to do this directly, but you can probably get a pretty good estimate by looking at your SQL Server information or your licensing information.

Since all of our individual users in Boylan connect directly to the database, you could start capturing your average/max user connections. You could use the Activity Monitor in SQL Server, or use Performance Monitor. If you use Performance Monitor, you can add a Counter for SQLServer:General Statistics:User Connections. Be aware though, our connections are usually created, used, and then dropped when the user does something requiring a trip to the database. So, your observed averages are going to appear lower than they really are.

You could also get an estimate by looking at the Licenses windows in Select. At the bottom, it shows your Leases. This will not account for any third part integrations you might have that use the API though. This count might also be a little higher than reality, because some individuals will be consuming more than one license.
