Can a new file be archived immediately?

Post by danvanf »

Hello,

We are planning on bringing 250 gb of old file PDF documents into Select. We are bringing HalFile scanned images in. Most of the file numbers will be new in Select, and of course, the Attachments to those files will be new. Is there any way that we can set something to tell Select we'd like these files and or attachments to go directly into the Archive rather than sitting in the SQL BLOB, then being archived through the "days old" process? Some concerns are we have wasted backup space, SQL management issues, and potential performance issues when over the course of a few days 10,000+ files get archived.

So if we could archive the PDF Attachments right away, they would go to their permanent resting place rather than spending 30 days in the BLOB. And really who wants to spend 30 days in the BLOB.

Thanks for the help,
-Dan

Who indeed. We know Steve McQueen didn't want to spend any time at all in The Blob (1958).

I don't know the answer and my R&D developers may not have practical experience on doing this in a production system. Your best bet is to call SoftPro Select Customer Service. They would be familiar with companies that have done this and any lessons learned. If that is not successful, check back.

Good luck.

The solution to this is to set the Blob Archive to 1 day during and for at least 1 day after the import is complete. The Archive process takes place every 10 minutes. This looks to work out well for a week+ import process.
